Version 1.0

Welcome to Uptime Overlord!
Thanks for downloading Uptime Overlord.

What is Uptime Overlord ?
Uptime Overlord is a web server monitor. You use it to check that your websites are up and running. You can run reports to see exactly what's going on, like
  • How often your web site is unavailable, and for how long
  • Whether or not the web server itself is down, or if you just can't reach it

    Requirements
  • Mac OS X 10.2.x or above
  • A permanent internet connection
  • You need to keep your Mac on - and not sleeping - as much as possible
  • Disk space - allow 10MB per year per web site you monitor

    Uptime Overlord Client and Server
There are two parts to Uptime Overlord, called the client and the server.
  • The server runs all the time, starting when your Mac is booted.
  • The client is what you use to see the data generated by the server.

To use Uptime Overlord, you install the server, and just leave it running all the time.
To view the data which the server has collected, you start up an Uptime Overlord Client.

How to Install Uptime Overlord Server
Double-click on the installer package in this folder. This will start the installer.
You will need root access to do this install. The server is installed into the folder
    /Library/StartupItems/UptimeOverlord.

    To Start Uptime Overlord Client
Double-click on the Uptime Overlord Client. This starts a web browser window. Then you can add (and delete) web sites to monitor, and run reports.

You can drag the Uptime Overlord Client to wherever you want. For example, you may like to put it in your Applications folder.

How to Uninstall Uptime Overlord Server
If you don't want to use Uptime Overlord, you can uninstall it with the Uninstall script. You run this on the command line, using terminal or xterm. You need to run the script as root, so it can stop the Uptime Overlord service, and properly clean up.
