How to use the "Post-Roads of Europe 1781"

The maps composing "Post-Roads of Europe" can be viewed directly from the original CD-ROM but also from your hard disk. In all cases an Internet browser, such as MS Explorer, Mozilla or Netscape Navigator is necessary.
To use this CD-ROM from the hard disk, it is necessary to copy the folder "folii" and the file "start.html" in a new directory created for this purpose somewhere on your disk, but preferably in "Program files", and to create a shortcut, on your desktop or in the Windows Start menu, pointing towards "start" or "start.html".
From Rocque's Map Start page, you can click on the dedication or on the words "Entrée - Entry" to reach directly the General Map of Europe which presents itself as follows:

Click on a sheet of the main map (1) or of the reminder map (2) to reach the next zoom level, showing a complete folio. A clic on the logo (3) offers a short presentation of John Rocque's life and a list of the principal maps he has published. The command "Return" (4) makes it possible to return to the Start page and to the End user's licence.

Click on the main screen (5) to reach a detailed view, at the maximal zoom level.
The reminder screen (6) shows the position of the dispayed area and makes it possible to pass to another sheet.
The name of the active folio is mentioned in title (7).

This is highest enlargement level. The directional arrows (8) allow the displacement of the displayed zone. It is possible to view a complete folio, at this zoom level, by clicking on the command "Full section" (9) but the loading time will be long for old computers.
The name and number of the displayed area appears in title (10).
The order "Return" opens the same full sheet at the previous zoom level.

There are two printing possibilities:
1) through the "File/Print" command of your browser
2) by noting down the number marked in title and opening the corresponding jpg file with an imaging software like Photoshop. Then it will be easy to use the "print" function of this software.
