If there are many items on the screen, items with a low importance may be very small, which makes them difficult to select or edit.
You can focus the display so that it will let you work on a particular goal, as well as its obstacles and solutions. Even if the items are normally small, focusing on that goal will make sure that it becomes big enough to work with.
To focus, select the goal you'd like to focus on, or any obstacle or solution attached to that goal. You can do this either by clicking the item with the mouse, or navigating to it with the keyboard.
Then click on the "Focus In" button in the toolbar or choose "Focus In" from the "Items" menu.
The display will shift so that the focused goal takes up a sizable portion of the display; if it was quite small it will now be large enough that you can easily work with it, as well as its obstacles and solutions.
At the same time, other goals will be "pushed away" so that they take up less space, but are still visible towards the edges of the display. Think of it as working like a "fisheye" lens.
When done, click the "Focus Out" toolbar button, or choose "Focus Out" from the "Items" menu. This will return everything to the proper size.
You can also focus an item by double-clicking it, and focus back out by double-clicking the user icon in the center of all the goals. Command-Return will also work.
